The Printing House in Moscow

The Printing house was once located in the basement of the city. It was designed by Barsch and Zunblad, the constructivist architects who were also responsible for the famous Ogonek journal. Although the Printing House is not a museum, you can see the original printing press and view the museum's photocopies of documents and details about the underground workers. The building's exterior is remarkably simple and modern, with no ornamentation, but the interior is a work of art.

The first printing house in Russia was established in 1553 in Moscow. It was founded by Sylvester, a priest at Moscow's Annunciation Cathedral and a possible confessor to Ivan IV the Terrible. In 1553, Ivan IV issued a decree that required the construction of a printing house in Moscow. As a result, it was known as anonymous typography. This type of printing was not a commercial enterprise and produced only sample pages. It is unknown who founded this print shop, but Fyodorov may have worked for Marusha Nefediev in a previous business or adopted some of his methods. https://www.press-store.net/publ/broshjury/7

The printing house produced various publications for the Imperial Court, such as billboards and programmes for the theatre. It also published Russian manuscripts and reprinted ancient Russian literature. It was owned by the RSDLP leader Krasin and his wife, Yenukidze. In 1899, Levenson opened a shop selling Caucasian food. This newspaper quickly became popular and became an important source of news about the theatres in Moscow. The newspaper was also a popular advertising medium, and in 1913, the printing house had a small American printing press.

Located in the Kitai-Gorod business district, the Moscow Print Yard is one of the oldest state-owned printing houses in the country. It is an important part of the Russian literary history. In addition to printing, the printing house also produces many books without the printer's name. They also provide design services. So, if you want to make a statement, go ahead and visit the Printing house in Moscow.

It is interesting to note that the first printing house in the city of Moscow was established by Ivan IV the Terrible in 1563. The printing house was initially located in the Nikolskaya Street. Butyrka prison castle was nearby and it was used to print the Rabochy newspaper. After the Revolution, the house was abandoned. However, the machinery was relocated to the Rozhdestvensky Boulevard. In 1924, the Printing house became a museum. The museum was established by former underground workers and is now the tenant of the Russian State University for the Humanities.

The printing house continued to grow and expanded in size. In 1896, the management of the printing house received a gold medal at an exhibition in Paris, which celebrated the 100th anniversary of the lithographic production process. The company's profits increased. In 1913, the total assets of the company were 500,000 roubles. Its employees were employed by the Imperial Court Ministry. In 1942, the printing house was named the Purveyor of the Court of the Russian Empire.
